Happy Spring, everyone! The sun is finally starting to come out here in Denver. We’ve had blizzards lately and it has put me in the WORST mood! Now that the sun is shining, it’s finally starting to feel like Spring! Hoo-rah.
I partnered with Airheads a little while ago and I’ve been itching to share these cute little flower cupcake toppers with you. Airheads asked if I could whip out something fun and Spring-related. It’s a bonus that they’re 100% edible! Why? Because they’re made of Airheads candy!
Supplies:
- Airheads candy in assorted spring colors
- Mini round cookie cutters (I used icing tips to keep it REALLY mini!)
- Plastic white toothpicks
- Wax paper
- Microwave (used to soften Airheads, but isn’t necessary)
Start by laying your airheads on the sheet of wax paper. Microwave the airheads for 7 seconds to soften them up a bit. Fold the wax paper on top of the airheads and flatten them a little using your fingers. Do this until the airheads are wide enough to fit your largest cutter or icing tip.
Using the large icing tip or cutter, punch circles in one of the Airhead candy strips.
Repeat these steps using the smaller cutter or icing tip and punching out more Airhead circles. You need at least 6 or 7 mini circles to every large circle. These will be the “petals”.
Going one at a time, attach the mini circles to the larger circle by pressing firmly. Press one half of each circle on while leaving the other half untouched. Repeat these steps until only one space for a petal is left. You can use Wilton’s edible adhesive if you live in a very dry climate and the circles aren’t sticking. I just pressed mine together and they didn’t come apart!
Before you attach the last petal, place the toothpick on the center of the large circle. Cover the toothpick with a small “scrap” of airhead and press firmly. Place the last petal over the toothpick and press firmly.
Turn over, and you’ve got yourself a cute and edible flower! Place these in delicious cupcakes and admire your tasty craft!
