I’m a bit obsessed with cupcakes. I’m a bit obsessed with sugar if I’m being honest. Β They are the perfect treat to whip up every Tuesday night. What? You don’t do that? Whether you make cupcakes regularly or only make them on special occasions, we can all agree that it’s so fun to decorate them. Um, and eat them. π
If you’ve got a party coming up and need some custom cupcake toppers, look no further than your own kitchen. You most likely have the ingredients to make meringue. Pipe out any letters or numbers and get to toppin’ those cupcakes! (Recipe for meringue at the bottom of post.)
I made meringues for our New Year’s Eve party, and while they didn’t taste good, they sure were pretty. It gave me the idea to create other shapes and letters and use them as cupcake toppers! Now, I’m addicted and am piping up a storm in my kitchen. Take an hour or two and make your own. They really pretty up a cupcake. And if there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that outward appearances are what matter in life. π
Meringue Cupcake Toppers
- 4 egg whites
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
- 1 1/2 cup of sugar
- food coloring
Let the egg whites stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. Add the salt and cream of tartar and beat in a mixer on high until light and fluffy. The tips should start to curl. Slowly add the sugar a little at a time while beating on high. Beat meringue until stiff peaks form. Add food coloring. Place into a piping bag fitted with star tip. Pipe onto cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake meringue at 225 degrees F for one hour. Turn oven off and let meringue cool in oven for at least 60 minutes. Remove from oven and place letters/shapes on top off frosted cupcakes! https://blackmenheal.org/wp-content/languages/new/vidalista.html

When I got home from my mission and was really sick, Chris made me meringues all the time with xylitol instead of sugar and a little vanilla. They were like a chunk of heaven for my sugarless diet.
Lexy says
Would you eat them now?!?! I don’t think I could do a sugarless diet. I’m pretty sure I would self-destruct.

They look beautiful! Thanks for sharing this fantastic idea π

Oh, Thanks Aida!!!! They’re pretty! I don’t think they’re very tasty, but some people have liked them!

Those are cute! Right now I’ve only mastered the “blob” merengue, so it should be a nice challenge to actually make a shape π
Lexy says
Hester, the nice thing about this meringue recipe is that it’s very thick and sticky. The meringues pipe out and really keep their shape. So easy! π

Maria! This recipe is so easy. It’s really thick and sticky, so when you pipe the meringues, they really hold their shape!
