Okay, today’s quilts are some that are actually in my own home. I love to snuggle up with a big, comfy quilt and a good read. The first quilt shown is one my mother-in-law made for me. One of my favorite colors is green and she made sure to incorporate that shade all over this little baby. It has some nice minky fabric on the back and that makes this blanket SOOOOOO soft and cozy.
The one below is the first quilt I ever made. It’s a simple square one. Now, I’m sure that this is just a breeze for all you quilters out there, but I was intimidated when I thought about the size. 71” x 86”. He’s a big guy. I made him for my husband, Logan, while we were dating. I told him that we would need to sign a pre-nup for this little gem if things didn’t work out between us. Good thing they did!
I measured out 60 squares that were in coordinating colors. Brown and blue are manly, don’t you think? Then, I just laid them out in the pattern that I thought looked nice. I liked having the squares match diagonally. It added a little flare without being too difficult. I didn’t really follow a pattern because two of my college roommates happened to be pro-sew and helped me every step of the way. However, a pattern for a quilt similar to this one can be found here.
My favorite part is the back. I covered it with that wonderful minky in a nice chocolate brown. Because the quilt was so large, I had to do the back in two sections. I had some hook-ups at a local quilt shop and was able to borrow their quilting machine to finish this guy. I brought my quilt in and spent the day free-handing all the little spirals. It’s nice to free-hand because I could make them as big or small as I needed. I’d never quilted anything before so of course there were lots of mistakes but who cares?!? It’s fun! I would love to be a professional finisher of quilts. Is that a real job? I don’t even need payment.
I think this is what makes quilting so fun. The possibilities are endless!
