Hello, Hello. Did you know that the leading cause of death of beavers is falling trees? True story.
Anyway, I posted about some turkeys here and my mind was wandering all weekend. I searched high and low for felt balls but was outta’ luck here in these parts. I did find some poms in different sizes and they’ll do. These turkeys have a kind of folksy look to them and they have definitely grown on me. DIY below.
Supplies: felt in fall colors, a cardboard leaf template, pom balls in different sizes (large, medium, small), yellow pipe cleaner, pencil, scissors, hot glue gun, and some googly eyes (is that what they are called?)
Trace the leaf template onto each sheet of felt like so…
After you’ve traced, cut each leaf out.
And you’re done! Just kiddin’.
Lay the felt leaves out in the order you would like them.
Flip the leaves over and get those suckers glued.
View from the back.
View from the front.
Flip them back over and use a huge dollop of hot glue right in the center.
Stick your largest pom right on that pile of glue.
Attach two (or more if you like) googly eyes to the medium size pom ball.
Cut a tiny triangle of orange felt for the beak and glue that on too.
Pour some hot glue on the large pom and attach the head.
Careful now, this is like brain surgery.
Cut the long pipe cleaner in half.
Start bending the pipe cleaner to make little talons. Aren’t they just so presh?
Pour some glue and attach it to the bottom of the large pom.
Voila! So folksy. So sweet. I think I’ll name him Burt. I can’t decide if I like them better with or without wings. Probably wings, right? It’s more realistic. 🙂
Happy Tuesday!
