Warning: if you only come here for pretty photos and inspiration for parties and weddings, you should stop reading now. The photo below may scare you away forever.
Today is our anniversary. We’ve made it 4 years! Holy crap. Logan and I are heading into our 5th (5!!!) year of marriage. I can’t believe how fast time has flown. I still remember our wedding day. Logan’s grandpa was the man who officiated our wedding. He was so wise and had so much love to give. We knew we wanted him to marry us and he had come out of “retirement” to do us this special favor. And on our wedding day, he was about 25 minutes late. If you know me, or any other bride for that matter, you know that I freaked. This was my wedding day!
“Was this a sign?”
“Am I supposed to get married today?”
“Did something happen to grandpa?!”
These are the thoughts that were running through my head. I didn’t know what to feel. I just knew that I was freaking out and that this had to be a sign. And then, I just started thinking about why I spent the last several months planning what I had planned. I started thinking about what I woke up planning to do that day. And I calmed down. I honestly don’t know how I was able to relax because I’m a total basket case. (My mom probably slipped me something.) But remembering why I was there, and who I was about to marry just had such a calming effect over me. Logan’s grandfather had cancer. The man was very ill. And he had mustered up enough strength to get to the wedding and be a part of the thing that mattered most in the world to us.
Now, you may be thinking, “Lexy! You made a sickly old man with cancer get out of bed to marry you?!? You selfish!” But if you could have seen the man that day. He was tall and strong and you would think he had just come away from a day’s work on the farm. He was alert. And he was honest. And it was special. And the things he said to me that day will stay with me always.
Fast-forward to today and my life has been filled with adventure. Logan and I have moved several times. We’ve started new jobs and lost others. We got a dog. We grew closer. We fought. We laughed. We dressed up. We cried. We dressed up some more. We traveled. We fished. We dressed up again. (We love costumes, you guys.) We have had to depend on each other so much for so many things. We’ve been through a lot. We’ve been through a lot of things that most young couples don’t have to go through. And we’re better and stronger for it. And I don’t think that I could have gone through it all with anyone but him. He’s pretty great.
So, Logan, if you happen to be reading this today, you’ve made my life. Thanks a million.
In a nutshell: Grandpa showed up. We got married. And the rest is history.

It’s just the most popular day for marriage! I have a friend who got married on the same day. Totally crazy!
Maribeth says
You know, I have this feeling that you and I are a bit alike.
Happy 4th lady. Does it make you feel old?
Lexy says
It actually does. We keep getting the “it’s been four years! Where are the babies?!?” I’m sure you’re getting that, too?
Maribeth says
Have mercy, have we ever. Mostly from our friends who all have babies. I say that once the baby comes the baby stays…so I think we’ll take our sweet time.
