We have been taking walks outside when we can (while making sure to distance ourselves and others), and when we’re not painting table leg characters. Earlier this week, we put a little neighborhood scavenger hunt together for some of the folks that live around us. I absolutely love our neighborhood because we’re all trying to find ways to stay connected without actually getting in some face time with each other. The kids and I had a blast scouring our area for all of the things on our list, so I thought I’d create a printable version of our neighborhood scavenger hunt so you could share it with your friends, family, and neighbors too!
I put a bunch of things that you would normally find on an outdoor list, but added some things that I’ve seen many neighborhoods take part in – looking for chalk art! Our neighbors really went to town and created such pretty and fun things for my kids to look at. There was also a really long hopscotch area!
Because we live in the desert (and are so lucky to be able to get outside regularly during the quarantine) we are surrounded by cactus. They are decorated during the holidays with lights, and pumpkins, and ornaments, and tinsel. It’s so fun!
I sent a version of the neighborhood scavenger hunt as a google doc to all of our neighbors in our neighborhood Facebook forum with a section for folks to add specific things that they might be up for doing in their own yard. One neighbor placed cascarones all over her yard (and made sure to disinfect x 10 prior!) and this was Vita’s fave part of the neighborhood scavenger hunt.
Cascarones are hollowed out eggshells filled with confetti. They’re easy to break and so fun to play with! Vita smacked hers on her head and this was a result of the confetti-plosion.
My contribution to our neighborhood scavenger hunt was a bunch of streamers hanging from the trees in our driveway. I had also added balloons, but those suckers popped because it happened to be a little windy.
We took a walk around the neighborhood to check things off our list and see what our neighbors put in their yards. So much fun!
Easy things like flowers, bugs, street signs, specific-colored cars and plenty others made our neighborhood scavenger hunt list.
This was seriously one of the cutest bits of sidewalk chalk. There were so many messages meant to uplift those that walked by and I just love the hearts of these cute kids who drew them!
Running down our favorite hill while watching our favorite sunsets.
You can download the printable version right here. And for an extra challenge, share this with your neighbors and add more customized items to it like silly decorations in your yards or funny things added to your mailbox. This neighborhood scavenger hunt is a great way to get out and have some fun while also practicing safe social distancing!
