Last month, we threw a hipster-themed party for my friend Sally and her now one-year-old son, Liam. I threw Sally’s baby shower last year (take a look at the old archives!) and it was only fitting that I help with her son’s “I’M TURNING ONE” bash! I mean, you only turn one once. This kid has a lot of hair and is crazy cool, so we felt it was appropriate to throw him a hipster party. Complete with mustache cookies, mustache cake pops, mustache sandwiches, and hipster beverages, this party was off the hook. (Is “off the hook” a hipster term?) (Am I trying too hard to be cool?) Most of the guests attended in their hippest attire. You know that means A LOT of big glasses. Read all of the details about the glasses and see the hipsters in their natural habitat after the jump.
Mustaches were found everywhere. Even on these charming and suave cake pops.
There were soooo many hip parents and hip babies. My mind was totally blown.
See that baby in the green trousers? The one with all the hair? Birthday Boy.
Honestly, the babies were the hippest. Just born to be cool, I guess.
We chose IZZE as the hip beverage. It comes in a sleek can that is well-designed. And design is important to someone as hip as myself. 😉
Okay, now you know that there were a lot of hipsters with a lot of hipster glasses on their hip faces. I’m happy to say that I have a few pairs of large frames that I wear on a daily basis. GlassesUSA.com saw that we’re fans of facial accessories and wanted to get in on the action! I was given the opportunity to pick out a pair of frames with prescription lenses and I’m quite a fan of them! I love large glasses for several reasons:
1. They’re large and cover a good portion of my face.
2. I can look like an absolute slob, but the minute the eyeglasses come on? Instant put-togetherness.
3. I wear my hair up most days and glasses make me feel a little more dressed up.
4. I feel like I belong in this cool world.
Buying glasses online can be super tricky. I was a tad nervous to buy glasses just because I wasn’t sure what would look good on my face. What if they’re too wide? What if they make my nose look big? (It’s kind of impossible to make it look bigger than it already is, but still…) GlassesUSA has a virtual mirror that you can use to “try on” frames. You just upload a picture of yourself and then drag the frame over your face. Easy! It’s just like those programs that let you try different hairstyles. By the way, can anyone send me a link to one of those? I’m wanting a change. 🙂
I forgot to save the picture I used of me to try on the frames, but here’s a small shot of the virtual mirror:
Basically, you get to see what you look like with any of the frames. ANY OF THE FRAMES! I spent a good hour or two trying on every frame until I was sure these were the ones I wanted. The frames came within a week of ordering and I’ve been trying them out every day since. What do ya think? Do you like ’em? I felt a little vain posting the above pictures of me, but you need to see what they look like with my many facial expressions!
Remember: When ordering prescription glasses online, you need to make sure you have your pupil distance measured accurately. Because you can’t actually try on these frames before ordering, it’s tricky to know where the optical center or center of your prescription should be placed. For people with lower prescriptions, it’s not as pertinent, but if you have a higher Rx, it’s best to get measured by a professional. Don’t want to be seeing double, now do we?! If you want to order a pair for yo’self, just enter the code BLOG10 at checkout for 10% off!
What would you wear to a hipster party? Suspenders? Skinny jeans? Beanies and large glasses? Do tell.
*NOTE – no hipsters were harmed in the making of this party. And I didn’t work at the Apple store. I stole that shirt. Just kidding. I made it. And although these glasses were provided to me, all opinions and statements are my own. Tryin’ to keep it real!

I’ve used GlassesShop.com and GlassesUSA, both of them are perfect. Their glasses are wonderful – I get compliments all the time – sturdy frames, right prescription lenses.
